Bistro-bar Voisin at Chatelain

A newcomer in the Chatelain hood! As the little brother of the established restaurant Djo which focuses on dishes to share, the bistro-bar Voisin specializes in exquisite pasta dishes, hence their slogan ‘the place to pasta your time’. We quickly headed over to take a look (and a bite)!

Voisin, Chatelain

The setting

As they renovated the place, the owners Louis Jones et Maxime Grell opted for an industrial yet modern look. Raw materials like the red brick walls and wooden floor keep it plain and simple, while the retro furniture and funky color accents make the place live up immediately. I instantly fell in love with the eyecatcher at the back of the restaurant: a wall entirely covered with beautiful turquoise Moroccan tiles. (I’m saving up tiles from Morocco to build the same at home. So far I’ve got... three.) I also liked how they’ve turned the window sills into functional seating with comfy cushions.

The concept

As a bistro-bar, Voisin offers a setting suitable for a fine dining experience as well as a casual afterwork drink with friend or colleagues. On a sunny day, the large outdoor terrace is just perfect for a refreshing drink (read: cocktail!)

The food

I must’ve kept you in suspense by withholding this very important information until the end. Voisin offers an original menu centered around fresh pasta dishes. The recipes have been revisited by chef Justin Châtelain himself, which results in an extremely flavorful mix of fresh ingredients. My partner ordered spaghetti with ground beef and Brussels mushrooms, a standard recipe that can hardly go wrong. Nevertheless, the creamy meat sauce still impressed his taste buds.

I opted for one of the more original options on the menu as I felt very intrigued by the cannelloni stuffed with eggplant caviar, accompanied by goat cheese and green pesto. It turned out to be an excellent choice!

As I’ve mentioned earlier, you don’t need to be hungry to check out Voisin. It’s also a perfect place to catch up with your friends over a delicious cocktail. I would definitely vouch for their Pink Army, a cocktail with gin, almond syrup, tonic and egg white, which is not only delicious, but also looks awesome. The meringue crumble and dried orange slice literally top it off.
