Mammouth
Although there are plenty of lunch spots around the Bruxelles Midi train station, few are as trendy as the bright and cozy restaurant Mammouth, which prides itself in serving fresh and healthy food.
The large windows turn the restaurant into an oasis of light, which is much appreciated by Diego and his other plant friends. (Diego is a palm tree.) The retro school chairs, kilim cushions and design light bulbs are just a few of the other cool elements that adorn this place.
The menu is written on a large chalkboard against the wall and contains healthy sandwiches, buns, soups, fresh salads and homemade dessert. There are many options for vegetarians, among which the daily vegetarian plat du jour. The meals are fresh, tasty and original.
I had a sandwich with brie, honey and walnuts, along with a home-made ice tea, for a total bill of 8,60 EUR. For me, the portion was large enough, but if you have a big appetite, I’d recommend ordering an extra salad or soup.
The restaurant gets crowded quickly around lunchtime, so try to arrive early. The restaurant has been divided into two spaces around the open kitchen, which creates extra room for customers. The downside is that it can get a bit noisy when fully crowded.
To conclude, Mammouth is an excellent lunch place if you work in the area or want to grab a bite before taking the train.
